Film Discussion – Refuge

Watch a movie on your own, then attend a discussion of it made richer by the wide variety of viewpoints that participants hold.
We choose films that address social, political or cultural issues that are relevant to society today. They may highlight liberal-leaning, conservative-leaning or independent themes, or feature actors or directors from opposite sides of the political spectrum.
We’ll be discussing the film Refuge (2023, Erin Levin Bernhardt, Din Blankenship).
Refuge is a 78 minute documentary produced in 2021 that tells the inspirational story about people overcoming hate. Chris Buckley, who hated Muslims and joined the KKK after returning from serving in Iraq, meets Arno Michaelis, a former white nationalist who now works with Parents for Peace to guide people away from extremism. Arno introduces Chris to Heval Kelli, a Muslim doctor and Syrian Kurdish refugee. Arno will join us for this discussion.
