We’re almost in the final month of the Rise For America campaign, and we have nearly 1,200 actions committed! It’s not too late to get involved — and there’s a fun and easy way to jump in and make a difference.

All you have to do is host a party, watch a 50-minute documentary together, and have a discussion afterwards. (Psst — there’s no minimum on how many people join your party!)

The documentary, Braver Angels: Reuniting America, is a powerful experience that is proven to help people with different political perspectives connect, communicate and understand each other.

In fact, a recent unpublished university study found that watching the documentary reduced affective polarization, increased optimism about the country and fostered the belief that dialogue could help improve the state of our country’s polarization. It was also effective in increasing positive views and decreasing negative ones about the other party.

We’d love for you to host a viewing of this film, either with your friends and family or in conjunction with an organization such as a faith-based group, a civic organization, or another group in your community. Then, have a discussion using this guide designed by Braver Angels co-founder and marriage and family therapist, Dr. Bill Doherty.

Interested? Here’s what you can do.

  1. Head to braverangels.org/rise
  2. Commit to Action #1: Host a Documentary Party
  3. Fill out the completion form to let us know this action has been taken.

Grab the people you love, the people you worship with, the people you’re hoping to build a bridge with, or the people you’d like to get to know better, and get this party started.

We can’t wait to hear what you think!

The more I was able to productively disagree with people, the more I realized that I didn’t need them to agree with me in order for me to be okay. I found strength and peace in myself that left me feeling more empowered, even when the world felt scary and out of control.
