An 80something grandmother who watches conservative TV for hours on end. A young man whose Republican parents consider him a left-wing activist. A first-time voter stuck in the middle of political uproar with many questions for friends who don’t seem to listen.
How — in campaign season and at any other time — do they and others with conflicting views best communicate without acrimony but also, without sacrificing their values?
A group of about 50 Brevard residents got a chance to learn just that at an Aug. 3 “skills workshop”organized by FLORIDA TODAY’s Civility Brevard project and led by Braver Angels. A nonpartisan nonprofit, Braver Angels was created after the 2016 elections to reduce political polarization in the U.S.
