Civic Scholars Council - Braver Angels

Civic Scholars Council

Our purpose is to advance courageous citizenship as the defining civic ideal of our time; to explore the multiple meanings and traditions of citizenship which feed the concept in America’s civic history; to strengthen its practice; and to shape how it is understood, taught, and lived in American civic life.

The Braver Angels Civic Scholars Council advances courageous citizenship by bringing leading reflective practitioners and scholars together to define, challenge, and shape its meaning and practice in modern American life. The Council strengthens Braver Angels’ efforts to inspire a culture of courageous citizenship through rigorous scholarship and theory-building grounded in real-world experiences and aiming at real-world impact.

Courage. Unity. Vision.

Civic Scholars Council

The Civic Scholars Council is an independent, volunteer network of scholars and reflective practitioners — otherwise known as academics and “pracademics” — committed to advancing courageous citizenship through research, thought leadership, and supporting Braver Angels’ Alliances across the country.

For Braver Angels and the nation, the Council performs the essential task of convening scholars and reflective practitioners to help lead the movement for more goodwill in our politics and society.
