There is little question that, politically, our country may be more divided than it has ever been. Part of the problem seems to be a lack of rational conversation with one other about our political beliefs, and the reasons for them.
Let’s face it, these face-to-face conversations are difficult to have, especially about some of the most divisive political topics of our day.
Instead, most of these interactions these days appear to occur on social media or comments below news stories, and they are very rarely thoughtful conversations. It quickly delves into name calling – someone who supports a woman’s right to choose becomes a baby killer; a person who is against banning the Confederate flag is deemed a racist – yet there is little effort on either side to understand how a person has arrived at their position.
