CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Our guest today on Featured at 5 is Judith Minter, the co-moderator of Better-Angels.org

Braver Angels is a citizens’ organization that aims to unite red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America.

We try to understand the other side’s point of view, even if we don’t agree with it.

We engage those we disagree with, looking for common ground and ways to work together.

We support principles that bring us together rather than divide us.

The Braver Angels National Convention will bring together liberal and conservative delegates from across the country to build our citizens’ movement, form new relationships across the divide, and shape our national agenda going forward.

Meetings frequently include five to eight Republican-leaning citizens (“Reds”) and five to eight Democratic-leaning citizens (“Blues”) who gather together for a half-day or full-day of structured conversations. Independents are also welcome to attend. We only ask that for the purposes of the workshop they identify as leaning either Red or Blue or attend as observers.

Episode 12: How to Citizen

Is it the facts that get in the way in our politics, or our stories? Baratunde Thurston is a renowned comedian, activist, and PBS host who knows a lot about how the stories we tell about ourselves can either unlock our civic power… or make us forget we even have it. We’ll zoom in on two unforgettable times Baratunde crossed big divides and what those clashes can teach us, and we’ll hear his four pillars of “how to citizen” — as a verb, not a noun — to help us wield that power daily. Then Monica and April close us out with a clash of their own, unleashing their own stories about citizenship to see where their different politics lead them to think differently about the concept and the many issues that surround it.
