Better-Angels.org bridging the political divide

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Our guest today on Featured at 5 is Judith Minter, the co-moderator of Better-Angels.org

Braver Angels is a citizens’ organization that aims to unite red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America.

We try to understand the other side’s point of view, even if we don’t agree with it.

We engage those we disagree with, looking for common ground and ways to work together.

We support principles that bring us together rather than divide us.

The Braver Angels National Convention will bring together liberal and conservative delegates from across the country to build our citizens’ movement, form new relationships across the divide, and shape our national agenda going forward.

Meetings frequently include five to eight Republican-leaning citizens (“Reds”) and five to eight Democratic-leaning citizens (“Blues”) who gather together for a half-day or full-day of structured conversations. Independents are also welcome to attend. We only ask that for the purposes of the workshop they identify as leaning either Red or Blue or attend as observers.

Not long after, he married Daniel’s mom, a Christian convert whose grandparents sought refuge in America after escaping pogroms in Europe.

Announcing Braver Angels Advisory Council

Twenty-three leaders who disagree on many things said yes to the same thing this month. That’s it. That’s the commitment. For more than nine years, Braver Angels has reached people in every state in the union. The ones who’ve engaged have experienced something that surprises them every time: the relief of disagreeing without contempt, and the discovery that the person across the table is not who the feed said they were.

Happy National Volunteer Week!

Braver Angels is powered by volunteers: everyday people who believe they have a role in bringing out the best in our country. And seeing our volunteers in action—giving their time and energy to bring together individuals who never dreamed they’d be in a room together—has buoyed me through all the political uncertainty.
