The mission of Braver Angels, to reduce political polarization and promote civil dialogue, is being enthusiastically received in Iowa. We think this is partly because Iowa is so politically engaged as the first-in-the-nation caucus state, but also because “Iowa Nice” is really a thing. Iowans enjoy our politics, but we also appreciate courteous interactions, and Braver Angels provides a better choice than our currently contentious political environment.
Due to the excitement for Braver Angels in Iowa, the demand has exceeded the resources of our mostly volunteer organization. So, we are hiring staff to help us meet this demand, and we could use your help! We have already hired a full-time State Supervisor, Christian Sarabia, to assist us in this Iowa Outreach Project. We anticipate hiring at least four, and hopefully eight, part-time field staff, covering each of Iowa’s four Congressional Districts.
Our most immediate goal is to screen the recently released Braver Angels Documentary in each of Iowa’s 99 counties, and in as many towns and cities as possible! A public screening of the Braver Angels Documentary is the easiest and best first step toward fixing our broken politics in America. Appropriate venues for a documentary screening can include public libraries, university and college campuses, and community theaters. Our field staff will also pursue other goals, to include identifying local organizers who want to bring Braver Angels Workshops to their communities, and setting up Braver Angels groups in colleges and universities.
This is an ambitious project, the first of it’s kind for Braver Angels, which is fitting for first-in-the-nation Iowa! It will continue at least until the 2020 general election, and we know we will be successful, with your help! Please consider making a tax-deductible charitable donation toward this effort! And, if you’d like the help in other ways, such as helping to arrange a documentary viewing in your community, please reach out to us.
