“Infrastructure” Spending – Too Much or Not Enough?

The U.S. Congress is considering legislation that will significantly expand the federal government’s spending on programs designed to increase long-term economic growth. The elements of that package focused on physical infrastructure — such as transportation, electric/gas/water distribution, and Internet — have wide bipartisan support. Other elements, including those that focus on making individuals more productive such as child care, education and training, and health care, are more controversial, with support divided on partisan lines.
The essence of the debate is disagreement on the costs and benefits to the country, over both the short and long term, of the federal government providing increased funding in these areas.
Please join Braver Angels Silicon Valley online on Tuesday, September 14 from 7 to 9 pm PT to engage in a discussion with diverse perspectives on which of these initiatives deserves support. We’ll use Braver Angels principles to try to identify common values, concerns, and constructive proposals.
