Tell me about yourself: Story Exchange with Narrative 4 – In Person

Often we don’t truly understand someone until we learn more about them. It’s only when we hear about their childhood or another life-changing experience that we can move past the abstract and truly say, “I see where you’re coming from!”

This is why Braver Angels encourages members to share (and listen to) personal experiences. To build on that practice, we’re hosting a Story Exchange led by Narrative 4, a not-for-profit that helps students and adults gain empathy and openness to different backgrounds and opinions. Story Exchange participants pair off and tell their partners a brief story that says something about themselves. Led by a trained facilitator, the group then reconvenes, and everyone tells their partner’s story in the first person as if it happened to them. The experience concludes with the group’s discussion about what they’ve learned.
