Skills Booster Session (MN – Twin Cities East Metro)

Last March we held this workshop, but a snowstorm got in our way and many were unable to attend. Therefore, we’re again offering this practical hands-on workshop. A special guest will lead this workshop to practice examining the tactics of modern media (i.e. spin, ad hominem, slant, flawed logic, etc.). by using resources from AllSides.
The purpose of this workshop is to learn – together – how to not be misled, manipulated, or divided by our media.
From the AllSides website: “Journalism is tied to a set of ethical standards and values, including truth and accuracy, fairness and impartiality, and accountability. However, journalism today [from both Red and Blue sources] often strays from objective fact, resulting in biased news and endless examples of media bias. Media bias isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But hidden bias misleads, manipulates and divides us.”
AllSides seeks to strengthen our democratic society with balanced news, media bias ratings, diverse perspectives, and real conversation and offers information and ideas from all sides of the political spectrum so people can better understand the world — and each other.
