Potluck and Discussion: Who Decides What Our Children Learn? (TX – Houston Area Alliance/Live Oak Friends Meeting)
May 10 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDT
Local Focus: Greater Houston Area
Join Braver Angels for a potluck supper followed by a thoughtful and engaging conversation. This session will focus on the actions of the Texas State Board of Education in shaping textbook selection and curriculum standards in science, history, and social studies. Together, we will explore concerns raised by citizens, educators, and policymakers about the quality, accuracy, and objectivity of educational materials, as well as the role that public values and community input should play in shaping what students learn. Participants will be invited to reflect on how deeply held beliefs and differing interpretations of civic principles continue to influence these important debates.
Our purpose is not to debate or convince, but to share our individual understandings and explore dimensions of these complicated issues. All viewpoints are welcome and respected.
