Controversies in Education: More frequent disagreements about what should be taught in our children’s schools have popped up during the last few years across our nation. School board meetings have become disorderly over hot-button issues like critical race theory, mask mandates, sexuality and gender. Many more school board members have stepped down early because of the stress. Some parents are exasperated. Which raises several questions as we dive into this subject:
- Who should be in charge of the education of our children?
- What should be the proper role of teachers, parents, the school district, and the State Board of Education in the education of our children?
- What subjects should be taught in school and what subjects should be taught at home?
- How do we ensure that every child is adequately educated and prepared to live as a productive citizen in our nation?
Our next West Suburban Alliance meeting will focus on the rising controversies in the education of our children. We would like to hear your perspective on this issue and want to invite you to join us. What has been your experience? Feel free to bring a friend as well.
