Watch a movie on your own, then attend a discussion of it made richer by the wide variety of viewpoints that participants hold.
We choose films that address social, political or cultural issues that are relevant to society today. They may highlight liberal-leaning, conservative-leaning or independent themes, or feature actors or directors from opposite sides of the political spectrum.
We’ll be discussing the film The Trans Teen Trend: A Case of Social Contagion? (2022, Claire Fox, Battle of Ideas).
The Trans Teen Trend: A Case of Social Contagion? is a 97-minute panel discussion and Q&A that took place at the Battle of Ideas Festival in the U.K. in 2022. Panelists Jennie Bristow, James Esses, Katy Jon Went, Helen Joyce ask why so many young people suddenly seem to want to change their gender identity? Is it just a fad, or are children who felt trapped being liberated?
