California’s “jungle primary” election process has brought a 2026 ballot with 61 candidates for governor. All voters, regardless of party, can vote for any candidate. The top two vote-getters advance to the general election in November. Is this democracy at its best or a confusing mess?
Critics of the jungle primary process include both Democrats and Republicans. Is this because the general election could feature two Democrats or two Republicans?
