Depolarizing Our Conversations & Communities

Local Focus: This event is to be attended in person by neighbors in Rockford and surrounding communities.
Braver Angels engages people across the political spectrum to depolarize our bitter political culture that produces dysfunction, cynicism, distrust, and even political violence.
This in-person Braver Angels presentation and Q&A at Garrett’s Restaurant & Bar http://www.garrettsrestaurantbar.com/ will outline conversational skills for polarized times and describe ways for citizens to get involved in solving the problem of hyper-partisanship nationally while building a House United in our communities.
Participants will study bridging skills, allowing us to connect with friends, family, and co-workers productively across political differences. Goals are to:
- map differences accurately (instead of by stereotyping the other side)
- search for common ground
- affirm the importance of the relationship.
You also will hear ways for citizen-volunteers and elected officials to depolarize public bodies and communities. Hear reasons for hope – treat polarization as a problem to fix rather than a defect in the American soul. You can do it in good company with neighbors and friends.

WHEN and WHERE: 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Garrett’s Restaurant & Bar, 1631 North Bell School Road, Rockford.
PROGRAM: (Light refreshments served)
- 6:30-7:00: Meet neighbors and share hopes and concerns for your community, and thoughts about polarized politics.
- 7:00 -7:45: Presentation by Braver Angels State Co-Coordinator, followed by Q&A.
- 7:45-8:00 (or longer!) Talk and make connections with neighbors and Braver Angels.
