California taxes and regulation: Is the state driving businesses away?

Are California’s tax rates and the state regulatory burden driving businesses out of California? Recent headlines describe a business and population exodus from California, and the environment created by the state government is a frequent target of blame. In fact, California’s economy continues to be significantly larger than any other state and most countries, but it’s also true that recent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in California has lagged the national average.
Is this due to state liberal policies or are there other more significant factors? And is higher GDP growth something that California should pursue at all cost?
To better understand the perspectives of those across the political spectrum on these questions, the Silicon Valley Braver Angels Alliance is holding an informal 90 minute conversation on the business environment in California. Please join us to gain a broader perspective and identify areas of common ground regarding how we can make California a better place to live and work in the future.
