“From Misinformation to Empowerment: Building Resilience Against Deception”
We will have an expert, Dr Jeff Blevins, give a talk on the topic followed by Q&A. He will talk about misinformation/disinformation/malinformation, where it comes from, who benefits from it, and how we can protect ourselves against it.
Dr. Jeffrey Layne Blevins is a Professor in the Department of Journalism and School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Cincinnati. His recent research focuses on social media and politics, as well as misinformation and disinformation online. Dr. Blevins’ recent book (with James Lee, Northwestern University), Social Media, Social Justice and the Political Economy of Online Networks (University of Cincinnati Press, 2022) won the Next Generation Indie Book Award for non-fiction e-book. His forthcoming book (also with James Lee), Social Media and Digital Politics: Networked Reason in an Age of Digital Emotions, will be published later this by Routledge. As an Army veteran, he is an active member of American Legion Post 484.
