Better Angels Is Now Braver Angels
While our mission remains the same – to unite red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America – our vision has evolved.
Yes, we need civility, and yes, we need to treat others with respect, but that’s not enough.
At this time of crisis, we need more than empathy and good will to overcome the fear, division, and mistrust challenging America.
We need courage.
The courage to see the humanity in our fellow Americans, regardless of political party.
The courage to endure the vitriol of our political opponents and the judgement of our friends.
The courage to build on what unites us rather than weaponize what divides us.
As Abraham Lincoln wrote during the Civil War, “The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion.”
Braver Angels is rising to the occasion.
What began with a dispute over trademark rights with another organization ended with the conviction that changing our name to Braver Angels is the best way to strengthen our message, galvanize our movement, and meet the current moment.
