Town Hall – Discussion Redistricting/Gerrymandering: Problems and Possible Solutions

The redistricting process usually leads to gerrymandering when politicians are in charge of the process. As a result, redistricting is another contentious topic that stirs political partisanship and polarization. Working with the Brookhaven branch of the League of Women Voters, our LI Braver Angels Alliance is sponsoring a Town Hall Discussion on Redistricting/Gerrymandering: Problems and Possible Solutions.
We will begin with a Powerpoint overview of the process nationally and in particular New York State pointing out problems and possible solutions, including “out of the box” like Fair Votes Multimember Districts with Ranked Choice Voting proposal.
As always there will be ample opportunities for discussion and give and take within a Braver Angels framework of “reducing the polarization to strengthen our democratic republic.”
