Potluck & Discussion: Why We See Things Differently – A Braver Angels Conversation on Moral Values and Political Leanings
Join the Houston Alliance of Braver Angels on **Saturday, September 6, 2025**, for a potluck supper and thought-provoking conversation inspired by Jonathan Haidt’s acclaimed book *The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion*. Over a shared meal, we’ll explore Haidt’s framework of six “moral foundations” and how different emphases on these values shape our political leanings. Together, we’ll share perspectives, reflect on our own experiences, and consider how understanding these underlying values can help bridge divides and foster respectful dialogue across the political spectrum. All are welcome—bring a dish to share and an open mind.
It’s not necessary to have read Haidt’s book to join the conversation. Before the event, we’ll send you background videos and podcasts that provide a clear, concise overview of his key ideas. We encourage you to watch or listen to these at your convenience. We’ll also share a short online quiz to help you see where you fit within the moral foundations model—giving you a personal starting point for our discussion.
