Money in Politics, Polarization, and Possible Pathways Forward

Braver Governance is a Braver Angels initiative that invites Reds, Blues, and Independents to engage major public challenges as citizens first: learning together, hearing from all sides, and better understanding how the systems around us shape the civic life we share.
This hybrid event will explore how money flows through our political system, how it may shape incentives and representation, and how it may contribute to distrust, division, and polarization.
The event will feature a balanced expert panel with senior money-in-politics experts from American Promise, RepresentUs, and Issue One. Participants will hear multiple perspectives, ask questions, and learn about proposals that could change important features of the system—especially at the state and local level, where citizens can often see more direct avenues for engagement. Additional invited experts may be announced.
The panel and participant exchange will be moderated in keeping with Braver Way principles, creating a respectful space for honest questions, thoughtful disagreement, and shared learning across differences.
This is not about telling people what to think. It is about creating a serious, balanced space to learn together about an issue that affects us all.
Note: A follow-on conversation (Saturday May 9th 12:15-2:15 pm) will provide participants the opportunity to reflect together on what they heard, dive more deeply into questions, and consider implications for polarization and citizen voice.
