Dollars & Dialogue: The Search for Common Ground on the Federal Budget
June 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm CDT
Join us for what promises to be a lively, enlightening and useful discussion about the federal budget. We’ll begin by reviewing some basics about federal spending as many of us haven’t paid much attention to this massive thing and are feeling a little lost. Don’t worry if you don’t know squat about the federal budget. All of us need to get up to speed. Let’s see if it’s possible to have some fun in this discussion.
Goals:
• To review some basics about the federal government.
• To understand what’s behind our disagreements about the budget.
• To discover what, if any, common ground exists about the federal spending.
• To identify where trust in federal spending is lacking and how it could be improved
• To encourage participants to contact their elected officials to let them know their views.
You may begin by asking yourself:
• What are my top three priorities for federal spending? What personal experiences and/or values have helped shape my view?
• Think about that pesky national debt. Are you concerned? Why or why not?
• Do I trust the government to spend taxpayer money wisely? Why or why not? What would need to change for me to feel more confident?
This workshop won’t be a debate. Rather, it is an opportunity to practice and strengthen democracy through respectful dialogue. Braver Angels seeks to create opportunities to have your views understood and for you to understand the views of others.
Once you register, we’ll email you a fact sheet but don’t worry if you don’t have time to look at it beforehand. We’ll have handouts.
