Discussion topic: Who’s Accountable for the Economy and to Whom?

February 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am CST

Host Organization: Ames Braver Angels Alliance
State/Region: IA
Setting: In-person

Inflation, wages, and the shrinking middle in an age of permanent crisis

Americans are often told the economy is “strong,” yet many households feel increasing strain. Rising prices, healthcare costs, housing shortages, child care expenses, and labor gaps tied to immigration raise difficult questions about responsibility and accountability. This forum will explore—not debate slogans—how market forces, public policy, institutions, and civic choices interact, and where shared responsibility lies.

What We’ll Explore

• Inflation and cost pressures
• Wages, productivity, and the middle class
• Healthcare affordability
• Housing and child care
• SNAP and healthy incentives
• Immigration and labor shortages
• Evidence-based, common-ground solutions
This discussion is designed to be civil, fact-informed, and participatory, welcoming a range of perspectives. Our aim is clarity, not blame and practical insight, not ideology.
We hope you’ll join us, whether in-person or online.
