Depolarizing Within School Communities – ONLINE

Social-cultural conflicts are finding local targets – schools and their communities. Public education has become an ideological battleground. Beyond “progressive/conservative,” these ideological conflicts are much more personal and are attracting “warriors” based on various issues.
This specific workshop uses examples relating to social-emotional learning, book banning, and changing long time classic books with modern language, as well as the rights of parents in public schools, and cell phone use in schools. The 2.5 hour workshop provides skills and practice for the following:
- How to become more aware of your own ‘inner polarizer’ in conversations
- How to disagree with others without demonizing, dismissing, or stereotyping large segments of our nation’s population or members of your community
- Listen to understand
- Speak in ways others will want to hear and be heard
- Affirm the importance of building relationships
- Feel safe to practice those skills
Who can come? Anyone interested in examining their own inner polarization and learning strategies to disagree without condemning or ridiculing others.
