Join us for a Depolarization Skills Practice Session: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion– a blessing or a curse?
In January 2023 the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners voted to dissolve the County’s DEI Department and repurpose the $800,000. To some this decision was controversial, to others it was a relief. Do you have an opinion about DEI concepts and actions? How was this opinion formed? Can you speak about this opinion in ways that those who disagree can hear? Can you listen to different opinions about DEI? Are you curious and interested in disagreeing better?
Summary: Depolarizing skills practice helps participants understand the values and concerns of those who differ from them politically and teaches essential skills for communicating across differences and finding common ground.
Goals:
*Grow understanding of the values and concerns of people who differ from you politically
*Practice skills for listening in a way the other person feels heard
*Practice skills for sharing viewpoints in a way the other person might hear even if they disagree
Action: Practice what you have learned about disagreeing better
