How many times did you not get to vote for the candidate of your choice because your candidate dropped out before your state primaries? Have you ever said, “I didn’t really want to vote for either candidate?” These are common problems in today’s elections, but many people don’t realize that the problem is partly caused by the way we vote. Our voting method (vote for only one candidate) is highly vulnerable to the “spoiler effect.” To fix this, many voting methods have been suggested (for example: ranked choice voting). This talk will discuss several voting methods and identify the pros and cons of each.
