Alliance/Members Meeting – Church and State: Where are the boundaries? Online

07/24/2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm EDT

Host Organization: Building Bridges Alliance
State/Region: ME
Setting: Online

“Church and State: Where are the boundaries?
“”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.””

These two clauses from the First Amendment – establishment & free exercise – provide the foundation for the separation of church and state. But the application of that separation fuels a fierce debate these days, as expressions of personal values and individual freedoms conflict.

Join us on Monday, July 24th at 5:30 pm to discuss what these clauses mean and how they are interpreted in the courts. We will use the 2022 Supreme Court ruling on the Carson v Makin case involving Bangor Christian Schools to help frame our discussion.”
