You’re Invited! A Mock Civic Assembly Experience
Local Focus: Los Angeles California and Surrounding Communities
Public Democracy Los Angeles (PDLA) is a coalition dedicated to making LA’s governance more equitable, representative, and responsive. Civic assemblies empower diverse residents to deliberate complex issues and co-create informed, community-driven solutions to intractable problems. From employment in Brussels to homelessness in Oregon to land use in California, assemblies have helped governments and communities around the world make more thoughtful decisions.
Curious about what participating in a civic assembly actually feels like?
Want to explore a new way to bring people together across differences to tackle real issues?
Join us for a hands-on mock civic assembly, a unique opportunity to experience this democratic model in action. During the three-hour program, participants will:
– Take part in a mini assembly experience on a Los Angeles issue.*
– Connect with a diverse mix of Angelenos
– Consider how this approach could be used on the issues you care about most
*While the topic is still being finalized, the mock assembly will focus on a timely issue facing Los Angeles—such as affordable housing, public transportation, or wildfire prevention and response.
Whether you’re part of a community organization, work in local government, or simply want to contribute to civic life in Los Angeles, this event is for you.
