2023 Braver Angels Convention

Rise for America. Come to Gettysburg. Create a Movement.

In July of 2023 on the grounds of the great battlefield of our 1863 Civil War, we will meet to prevent another one. Join together in Gettysburg to rise for America.

We will meet in Gettysburg because on that battlefield in 1863 occurred both the greatest battle of our Civil War and Abraham Lincoln’s great Address on why our Union matters.

Illustration of Abraham Lincoln's Head
“Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war.”

— Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863

Agenda & Activities

The agenda is in formation and we will update it here as it evolves. There will be plenary sessions bringing us all together, evening sessions opportunities to engage with prominent leaders, skills workshops, strategy working groups, special-topic courses, and a terrific concert on Saturday night.

You’ll engage topics such as:

Can conservatives and progressives agree on proposals to increase the trustworthiness of our elections?

How can I become a more effective civic leader?

“A deplorable and an expert walk into a bar” … what happens when a top U.S. health official and a grassroots leader skeptical of the health establishment spend a year together looking at the U.S. response to COVID-19?

What’s our strategy through 2024 to bridge the partisan divide?

The style will be participatory. The experts attending will be on tap, not on top. The convention will be co-chaired by one progressive and one conservative leader who will use adapted parliamentary procedure to ensure equal participation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The convention will begin with an Opening Plenary on Wednesday, July 5, at 7:00 pm and conclude with a Concert on the evening of Saturday, July 8.

You have to apply to attend and not all applications will be accepted. Braver Angels does it this way for three reasons:

1. To ensure equal numbers of conservatives and progressives. (That’s why we ask you to indicate your political leaning when you register.)

2. To ensure participation from many organizations.

3. To have a convention consisting of leaders.

Those whose applications are accepted are called delegates. Some delegates will come from Braver Angels local alliances and other Braver Angels leadership bodies. Others will come as representatives of civic, business, religious, service, educational, and other local and national groups from across the country.
Basic registration is $400. It covers food, lodging, parking, use of gym facilities, shared rides to and from airports and train stations, and participation in all convention activities.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is a 75-minute drive to the campus.

For commuters who aren’t using accommodations offered by the College, registration is $300.

For students, basic registration is $200.

Financial assistance will be available for those in need.
