1,700 volunteers in all 50 states rose for America

This summer, in the wake of the 2023 Braver Angels Convention, we launched the Rise for America campaign, an initiative to encourage Americans to take action against political polarization in our country and grow our movement.

The campaign wrapped up in October and we’re excited to share how much our volunteer base stepped up to depolarize their communities.

Since launching this campaign:

  • 1,700 volunteers in all 50 states committed to at least one of our five actions
  • 20% of those commitments came from people who were new to Braver Angels
  • And, for the Depolarizing Within Workshop alone, we had over 1,400 registrants — 50% of whom were new to Braver Angels, with 31% of whom became new members

We’re so grateful for and inspired by our grassroots base.

Our volunteers held documentary screenings, led ambassador presentations, trained to become Debate Chairs, and brought friends to attend a Depolarizing Within workshop with them. They even came up with their own ideas, whether it was launching a “Refuse to be a Jerk” campaign in Washington, or hosting a “Smash the Patriarchy!” debate in New York City.

But not every action taken had to be a big one. Some people just told three friends about Braver Angels, and that’s worthy of celebration, too. Every action taken—even if it’s just a quick conversation with a friend or family member—contributes to our growing movement.

So, where do we go from here?

Some actions aren’t completed yet, and that’s okay. The Rise for America site will still be up and running, should you need it.

But beyond this campaign, there’s so much more to come. We’re looking ahead to the election year and foresee the tensions many Americans will likely be grappling with. That’s why we’re building another campaign that will equip us with what we need to handle them.

As for now, stay tuned! And let’s get ready for 2024.
