Braver Angels in North Carolina
To Be, Rather Than to Seem
About Braver Angels North Carolina
As of December 2020 there were approximately 518 Braver Angels members in North Carolina. Beginning in June 2018 with a Red/Blue Workshop, numerous “on land” workshops, debates and presentations were held at churches, libraries, retirement communities, senior centers, Rotary clubs and other organizations.
Until the shift to online events in the face of the Pandemic, the activity was mainly in Regional Hubs, areas where there was a concentration of BA members and subscribers: Asheville, Charlotte, Gastonia, the Research Triangle, Fayetteville and Wilmington. In those areas Key Contacts helped people organize, lead workshops and debates, and keep tabs on BA events in their area.

Regional Hubs of Activity
Since the shift to online events in the spring of 2020, people from across the state can participate in almost any BA event. So having a statewide communication network has become even more important in providing contact information and details about what is available.

Workshops and Debates
Workshops and debates are helping depolarize the political culture in North Carolina. North Carolina has been very active in training moderators, chairs and technical staff for, and holding online workshops and debates. Many of these are organized and provided by the Braver Angels Alliance of Central North Carolina. Others have been organized and provided by the Asheville, Gastonia, Mecklenburg and Wilmington areas. Four of the first 12 local online debates in the country were in North Carolina, and the state has been a leader in offering online workshops as well.
